Todd Crandell’s drug use and drinking destroyed his life. In his 20’s he had gone from being a promising hockey player on his way to a professional career to a homeless, starving and drug-addicted ghost of himself. Unable to break free from this destructive liefstyle, Crandell hit rock bottom a few times. Finally, he decided to quit cold turkey. He then found triathlon, and the sport has helped Crandell overcome his addictions.
Crandell now competes regularly in Ironman Triathlons, works as a profestional speaker and drug counselor and runs a foundation (Racing for Recovery) that helps others use sport to prevent or escape from addiction. In his book, Racing for Recovery, Crandell relates how triathlon has helped him beat an elusive apponent. Published author and Newsday New York and Runner's World reporter John Hanc, along with Crandell, created this inspirational book over and year and a half, starting in the late spring of 2005. Racing for Recovery [From Addict to Ironman] will be released April 19, 2006 nationally and across Canada.
